Lewisville Historical Society Expands Digital Archives with New Additions

Enhancing Access to Local History Through DigitalNC Collaboration

The Lewisville Historical Society has significantly enriched its digital archives  by adding 53 new issues of The Lewisville Citizen, 20 yearbooks, a Forsyth County map, and the local history book Shallow Ford Country to DigitalNC.

These latest issues of The Lewisville Citizen span from 1956 to 1961, complementing the existing collection from 1948 to 1956. Readers can explore articles on May Day celebrations, the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department, senior class trips to Washington D.C., and the annual "Citizen of the Year" award.

Shallow Ford Country, authored by G. Galloway Reynolds, delves into the history of the Shallow Ford area, a pivotal crossing point in the Yadkin River utilized by Native Americans, colonial settlers, and military troops. The book offers insights into the region's development across the 18th and 19th centuries.

The 20 newly added yearbooks originate from three Forsyth County schools: Southwest High School in Winston-Salem, West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, and Lewisville High School in Lewisville. Notable editions include:

The Iliad 1963: Featuring a crimson red cover with embossed illustrations.

Cronus 1968: Showcasing a cream-colored cover with green decorative script.

LaHaSa 1949: Presenting a black background with gold text and embossed illustrations.

These additions provide a richer understanding of Lewisville's educational and cultural heritage.

In related developments, the Historic Nissen House, a Victorian-era landmark built circa 1876, has been restored and is now available for events such as meetings, receptions, and educational presentations. The house offers a unique atmosphere, blending historical charm with modern amenities, and is managed by the Lewisville Historical Society.

For those interested in exploring these new digital resources, all available issues of The Lewisville Citizen and other materials can be accessed through DigitalNC. More information about the Lewisville Historical Society and their ongoing projects is available on their official website.

These efforts underscore the society's commitment to preserving and sharing Lewisville's rich history with the community and beyond.
