Local Champions! Forsyth Country Day Wins Second State Basketball Title in Three Years 🏆

The Furies continue their winning tradition with another state championship run

In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, Forsyth Country Day School of Lewisville, NC clinched the NCISAA 4A boys basketball state championship with a 69-59 victory over Providence Day.. This triumph marks the Furies' second state title in three years, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in North Carolina's independent school basketball scene.

The championship game, held at the Novant Health Fieldhouse in Greensboro, saw Forsyth Country Day overcome an early 10-point deficit. The momentum shifted dramatically in the final minute of the first quarter when Jayon Connor electrified the crowd with a coast-to-coast tomahawk slam. This was immediately followed by an alley-oop to Prince Nwokemodo as the quarter ended, igniting a 21-3 run that turned the tide in favor of the Furies.

Connor's dynamic performance continued throughout the first half, contributing 10 points and energizing his team. JR Adams added to the offensive surge by sinking three free throws to break a 17-all tie, a lead the Furies maintained for the remainder of the game. Adams showcased his composure at the free-throw line, going a perfect 7-for-7, while the team collectively converted 22 of 31 foul shots.

Entering the third quarter with a seven-point advantage, Connor quickly extended the lead to 35-26. Despite Providence Day's efforts to narrow the gap to two points, they struggled with foul trouble, as three starters accumulated three or more fouls by the midpoint of the third quarter. Tristan Williams kept the Chargers competitive with 12 points, but another surge by Forsyth Country Day widened the margin.

Nwokemodo's presence was felt again when he capitalized on a loose ball to push the Furies' lead to 50-45. In a strategic move reminiscent of earlier plays, the team executed another lob to Nwokemodo, who delivered a powerful dunk while drawing a foul, closing the third quarter at 53-47.

The final quarter began with a drive, draw, and lob to Nwokemodo, further energizing the crowd and solidifying the Furies' dominance. The backcourt trio of Connor, Q Williams, and Adams combined for 40 points, ensuring the victory.

This championship adds to Forsyth Country Day's growing legacy, being their third  NCISAA boys basketball state title and the second in the past three years. They conclude the season with an impressive 29-3 record. Providence Day, led by Zeke Battier's 16 points, finished their season at 23-7, having won 16 of their last 17 games leading up to the final.

The NCISAA's decision to host the championship at the Novant Health Fieldhouse provided a fitting stage for this high-caliber matchup, highlighting the depth of talent in North Carolina's independent school basketball programs.
