West Forsyth's Jacari Brim Leaves App State for NC State in Transfer Portal Move |
A familiar name to Lewisville-Clemmons hoops fans is heading to Raleigh. |
Jacari Brim, the record-breaking point guard who rewrote the history books at West Forsyth High School, has committed to NC State men's basketball as a transfer from Appalachian State University. The move brings a homegrown talent back to the spotlight as the Wolfpack launches the Justin Gainey era.
From the Titans to the Wolfpack
Brim was one of the most decorated players in West Forsyth history before graduating in 2024. During his prep career, he surpassed 1,800 points and 600 assists — passing NBA legend Chris Paul on both lists to become the Titans' all-time leader in scoring and assists. That's not a footnote. Chris Paul is one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game, and Brim owns both records at the school that produced him. He was a four-time all-conference selection and earned Central Piedmont 4-A Conference Player of the Year honors during the 2023–24 season before choosing App State over offers from Charleston and Western Carolina.
One Year in Boone, Now Bound for the ACC
Brim's freshman season with the Mountaineers was spent primarily in a reserve role, appearing in 21 games and averaging just over six minutes per outing. But his ceiling was on full display in a December blowout win over Virginia-Lynchburg, when he erupted for 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting — including four three-pointers — and added eight assists. That kind of performance from a freshman off the bench turns heads. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard still has three years of eligibility remaining, giving NC State's staff plenty of runway to develop a player who has proven he can take over a game when given the opportunity.
Building the Gainey Era One Portal Pick at a Time
Brim becomes the seventh transfer portal commitment for NC State this offseason as Coach Gainey assembles his first roster in Raleigh. He joins a backcourt group that includes guards Christian Hammond (Santa Clara), Preston Edmead (Hofstra), Darius Adams (Maryland), and RJ Keene II (Boise State), with forwards Eemeli Yalaho (Washington State) and Kyle Evans (UC Irvine) rounding out the portal class.
For the Wolfpack, Brim represents the kind of high-upside depth piece that programs need coming off a coaching transition. For the Lewisville-Clemmons community, it's a chance to watch one of their own compete on a bigger stage — just a couple of hours down I-40.
Jacari Brim already made West Forsyth history. Now he gets a shot at making some in the ACC. |
