County Commissioners Approve $115,520 for Adoption Recruitment Initiatives |
On January 29, 2026, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment to the FY26 budget ordinance, allocating $115,520 in Adoption Promotion Program incentive funds to the Forsyth County Department of Social Services.
These funds, provided by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services, are designated to enhance and expand adoption programs based on the number of finalized adoptions in the fiscal year. The county manager introduced the item, emphasizing the purpose is to support recruitment and promotion activities.
Commissioner Wilson inquired about potential issues such as delays, shortages of foster-home placements, or pre-adoption assessments. County Manager Denise Price acknowledged, "There is absolutely a shortage of foster and adoption homes," and noted that staff are actively recruiting adoptive families. She encouraged interested individuals to contact social services for assistance through the process.
The program plans to utilize billboards, signage, radio ads, social media, and more in its promotion efforts. "It's an all-out recruitment campaign. For anyone interested, please call social services. "Children need loving families, and we need more of them," stated Denise Price, Deputy County Manager.
A motion to approve the appropriation was made, seconded, and approved by roll call.
In related efforts, Forsyth County offers virtual foster parent information sessions every second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. To RSVP, interested parties can contact the Forsyth County Foster Home Licensing Recruitment Hotline at (336) 703-CHILD (2445).
Additionally, the Forsyth County Department of Social Services provides comprehensive support for prospective adoptive and foster parents, including training programs and resources to guide families through the adoption process. The North Carolina Children's Home is also another great resource for potential foster and adoptive parents.
