West Forsyth Traffic Woes Continue Despite 2024 NCDOT Study |
Parents Face Citations Amid Ongoing Congestion Near High School |
Traffic congestion around West Forsyth High School remains a pressing issue, despite a 2024 NCDOT study aimed at alleviating the problem.
In November 2024, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) conducted a study proposing enhancements to the school's car line to increase capacity and prevent vehicles from backing up onto Lewisville-Clemmons Road.
The plan included extending the car line and rerouting the exit to Southwest School Road.
Despite these recommendations, the start date for implementing these changes remains undetermined.
During the first week of the current school year, several parents received citations from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for stopping in the right lane of Lewisville-Clemmons Road while waiting to enter the school premises.
One parent, Renae Franks, shared her experience: "It's been a little chaotic. I think the first day of school was probably the worst as far as the line to drop off and then again to pick up."
She expressed support for the proposed changes, stating, "Having a different route, as far away from all the traffic, that would probably be an ideal situation for everybody."
In response to the ongoing issues, the Village of Clemmons confirmed that funding for the proposed changes was approved in March.
However, the school district and NCDOT have yet to set a start date for the recommended improvements.
The NCDOT has indicated that adding additional lanes along Lewisville-Clemmons Road is not feasible, making the proposed internal campus changes the primary alternative to improve congestion.
As discussions continue, parents and community members remain hopeful for a timely resolution to the persistent traffic challenges surrounding West Forsyth High School. |
