Clemmons Is Dreaming Big:

Village Point Could Become the Heart of the Community

Architect's Rendering of Village Point Amphitheater in Clemmons, NC

If you've driven past the Village Point property in Clemmons lately and wondered what's coming, the wait for answers is getting shorter — and the vision is worth getting excited about.

At its April 14 meeting, the Clemmons Village Council got its first real look at what the remaining undeveloped portions of Village Point could become. Landscape architect Scott Miller of the MLA Group walked the council through an early concept plan that reads less like a municipal project and more like a wish list from the community itself: an open-air amphitheater, a one-of-a-kind airnasium, a farmers market, trails, and more.

A Stage for the Community

The first tract under consideration — about 2.8 acres — is being envisioned as an open-air amphitheater featuring a 30x40 band shell, a raised stage, surrounding berms, and walking trails weaving through the space. Picture summer concerts, school performances, community gatherings, and movie nights under the stars — all within walking distance of the heart of Clemmons. For a village that's long had the character but lacked the venue, this could be a genuine game-changer.

What Exactly Is an Airnasium?

The second tract — a larger 5.8-acre parcel — is being considered for what Miller's team is calling an "airnasium." Think of it as an open-air multi-purpose facility that could house pickleball courts, a mini-soccer field, and picnic areas under a covered structure. It's the kind of amenity that serves everyone from retirees to youth sports leagues, all without the stuffiness of a traditional rec center.  Clemmons has a growing and active population, and a space like this fills a real gap.

Fresh, Local, and Right Here

Rounding out the vision is a farmers market component — a natural complement to the outdoor gathering spaces and a nod to the area's agricultural roots. Local vendors, fresh produce, artisan goods, and community connection all in one spot. If done right, it could become a weekly ritual for Lewisville-Clemmons residents the way the best markets always do.

Still Early — But That's the Point

Miller was upfront with the council that nothing presented is locked in. "This is very early on in the process," he noted, "and there's nothing that you see tonight that can't be undone or tweaked at all." That's actually good news — it means community voices still matter in shaping what Village Point becomes.

Mayor Mike Rogers raised the idea of incorporating the future Town Hall site into the overall development footprint, suggesting the village is thinking holistically about the entire corridor. Village Manager Mike Gunnell echoed that sentiment, noting the value of looking at the whole area together rather than piecemeal.

A Long Play Worth Watching

Construction on Village Point isn't expected to begin until 2029, with completion projected around 2033. That timeline might feel distant, but plans like these take shape through years of community feedback, design iteration, and political will. The fact that the council is engaging early — and that the vision is already this compelling — is a strong sign.

For a community that prides itself on small-town feel with growing amenities, Village Point could become the centerpiece that ties it all together. Stay tuned, Clemmons. This one's worth following.
