West Forsyth Dominates Reynolds in Frank Spencer Holiday Classic Opener |
Titans Maintain Unbeaten Streak with Commanding Victory |
West Forsyth's boys' basketball team showcased their dominance in the opening round of the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic, overpowering Reynolds with a decisive victory. The Titans, holding the top seed in the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Bracket, extended their unbeaten record to 9-0.
From the outset, West Forsyth set an aggressive tone, jumping to a 9-0 lead within the first two minutes. Head Coach Marlon Brim praised the team's performance, stating, "I thought we played well. The first quarter, I thought we set the tone." The Titans concluded the first quarter with a commanding 24-10 advantage.
Senior guard Kamauri Manuel led all scorers, reflecting on the team's mindset: "We had a chip on our back. They were talking, so we came in the game with a chip." Manuel's intensity was evident as he capped the first half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer, extending the lead to 44-31.
Reynolds made efforts to close the gap, narrowing the score to 30-24 midway through the second quarter. However, West Forsyth's depth and resilience allowed them to regain control. Coach Brim highlighted the team's balance, noting, "I've been saying it all year, we're 12 deep. Any given night it won't be just Kamauri and Tate."
The Titans' offensive prowess was further demonstrated by contributions from Nicholas Fleming (13 points), Jordan Tate (12 points), and Kam Higgins (11 points). A highlight of the game was Manuel's emphatic dunk in the third quarter, energizing both the team and the crowd.
With this victory, West Forsyth advances to the semifinals, set to face No. 5 South Stokes, who edged out No. 4 Walkertown 65-64. The matchup is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Reagan High School. Coach Brim emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stating, "Being the No. 1 seed doesn't guarantee you'll make it to the championship. You've got to prove every night and come out and play."
The Frank Spencer Holiday Classic continues to be a platform for showcasing local basketball talent, with teams vying for the prestigious title in this historic tournament. |
