The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education is set for major changes, with three of six incumbents losing in the primary elections.
Thirteen candidates will advance to the general election, competing for nine seats across District 1, District 2, and at-large positions.
Notably, Democrat Richard Watts (at-large), and Republicans Susan Miller and Steve Wood (District 2) were unseated.
Incumbents Trevonia Brown-Gaither and Alex Bohannon (District 1, Democrats), and Robert Barr (District 2, Republican) will move forward.
Among new contenders, Ronda Mays, a former local educatorsâ association president, led the at-large Democratic primary, earning strong community support and calling for bipartisan efforts to improve education.
District 2 Democrat Lee Childress and Republican Bob Weiss, both with education and leadership backgrounds, also topped their primaries, promising advocacy and personal commitment.

Legacy Traditional Schools is launching its first North Carolina campus in Clemmons, expanding educational options for families in West Forsyth.
The K-8 school is designed for up to 1,200 students, focusing on a curriculum centered around patriotism, citizenship, and classic learning values.
Spanning 81,000 square feet, the facility will include several buildings, athletic fields, and recreational spaces, with nearby parcels set aside for future retail development.

West Charlotte Lions clinched a thrilling 74-70 overtime win over West Forsyth Titans at Lenoir-Rhyne Universityâs Shuford Arena, snapping the Titansâ perfect record in the inaugural NCHSAA 8A West regional championship.
The Lions now return to the state finals for the first time since their 2022 3A championship, their journey fueled by resilience and clutch performances.
