Help combat hunger in North Carolina by participating in local food drives this December

Hunger remains a pressing issue in North Carolina, with one in five children in northwest regions facing food insecurity.

Community involvement is crucial to address this challenge.

WXII 12 News has partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC to host several food drives throughout December as part of the "Share Your Holiday" campaign.

These events aim to provide nutritious meals to families in need.

Upcoming food drive locations include:

December 2 – Harris Teeter at Friendly Center, 3330 W Friendly Ave, Greensboro.

December 10 – Lowes Foods in Clemmons, 2501 Lewisville Clemmons Road.

December 17 – Chick-fil-A in Mount Airy, 2007 Rockford Street.

In addition to these events, Lowes Foods is celebrating the 31st anniversary of its annual "Friends Feeding Friends" food drive, which runs through December 31, 2025.

Over the years, this initiative has provided more than 16 million meals to local communities.

Donations can be made at any Lowes Foods store across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Participants can purchase pre-packaged donation bags of non-perishable items or make cash donations.

Each $8.99 purchase includes seven Lowes Foods products, while a $4.99 bag contains four items.

Cash donations of $10 are also accepted.

To improve efficiency, local food banks will collect cases of donated items rather than pre-packaged bags.

For those unable to attend in person, online donations are welcome.

Texting the keyword "FOOD" to 50155 allows for monetary contributions.

Every donation, whether food or financial, makes a significant impact.

Generous friends of Second Harvest are matching donations up to $30,000, amplifying the effect of each contribution.

As the holiday season approaches, consider supporting these initiatives to help ensure that no family in our community goes hungry.

Your participation can bring hope and nourishment to those in need.
