Quote Of The Day |
"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home." |
Snow Day at Shallowford Square - February 1, 2026
Lewisville and Clemmons were blanketed by 6 to 8 inches of snow on Saturday, January 31, 2026, marking the areaâs most significant winter storm in years.
This snowfall followed closely behind a recent icy weather system that already challenged the region.
On February 2, residents faced a frigid morning, with temperatures plunging to 3°F at Piedmont Triad International Airportâlevels not seen since 1996.
While major highways have been cleared, secondary roads remain hazardous with lingering snow and ice, prompting calls for commuters to drive with extreme caution.
The Governor recommends carrying a phone charger and blanket in vehicles, warning about black ice persisting throughout the week.
With over 1,000 collisions reported statewide, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will close all buildings on Tuesday, February 3, canceling student activities.
Students are encouraged to enjoy the snow safely and keep up with homework, while essential staff may report as conditions allow. Read More... |
On February 2, 2026, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, signaling six more weeks of winter.
Despite biting cold, thousands attended the 140th annual Groundhog Day celebration, a tradition rooted in old European customs.
The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club spearheaded the event, with Philâs tuxedoed Inner Circle interpreting the beloved weather forecast.
According to legend, Philâs shadow means a longer winter, but if unseen, an early spring is expected.
Though the accuracy of Philâs predictions is debatedâNOAA notes a 40% success rateâthe eventâs charm never fades.
Live-streamed coverage allowed fans everywhere to join in the seasonal spectacle.
Whatever the weather brings, Groundhog Day continues to unite community, folklore, and joyful anticipation each year. Read More... |
